The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesian known as the Sustainable Development Goals are a development program that has been determined by the United Nations (UN) as a world development agenda until 2030 for the benefit of humans and planet earth. Indonesia is one of the UN members that implements the SDGs.

To facilitate implementation and monitoring, the 17 Goals and 169 targets of SDGs are grouped into four pillars namely; Social development pillars: includes Goals 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, Economic development pillars: includes Goals 7, 8, 9, 10 and 17, Environmental development pillar: includes Goals 6, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 and Legal and governance development pillars: includes Goal 16.

State University of Malang (UM), which is a tertiary institution, is present as one of the important institutions in helping accelerate the achievement of the 17 SDGs goals. Particularly through the implementation of higher education tridharma, namely through education, research, and community service. UM’s role in the success of the SDG’s program can also be carried out through an innovation approach. This approach is an effective step in supporting sustainable development, especially in the pillars of social development: it includes Goals 1 (No Poverty), 2 (No Hunger), 3 (Healthy and Prosperous Life), 4 (Quality Education) and 5 (Gender Equality).

One of the concrete activities that UM has carried out is by conducting Community Service in Sumberejo Village, a village in the Malang Regency. Sumberejo Village is one of the villages in Malang Regency. Most of the land in Sumberejo Village is planted with bananas of various types, such as temple bananas, kepok bananas, plantains, and ambon bananas. However, its utilization has not been maximized. The bananas are only sold to the market in a raw condition. In addition, it is also processed into banana chips and banana rambak. With so much potential for bananas in Sumberejo Village, culinary product innovation is needed, so as to increase selling prices and this effort can increase the income of residents in Sumberejo Village (Indicator 1.2.2 of Target 1.2 Goal 1 and Indicator 3.3.2 of Target 3.3 Goal 3 of the SDGs).

As an effort to increase the development of local potential (Indicator 2.3.1 (a) of Target 2.3. Goal 2 of the SDGs) in the form of bananas in Sumberejo village a Community Service was held on Saturday 12 August 2023 carrying the theme “Banana-Based Food Product Innovation for PKK Empowerment and Diversification of Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) products Wardah Maharani, Sumberejo Village, Gedangan District, Malang Regency. This activity was carried out by Nunung Nurjanah as a lecturer in Culinary Education as well as the developer team of the CENTER OF GENDER and POPULATION, Titi Mutiara Kiranawati, as a lecturer in Culinary Education as well as the HEAD OF THE CENTER OF HEALTH and FOOD, Rina Rifqie Mariana, as a lecturer in Culinary Education, Thomas Soseco, as lecturer in the Development Economics Study Program as well as a development team for the GENDER AND POPULATION CENTER. This activity was also attended by 4 Culinary Education students, namely Adisti Putri, Ester Abigail, Fadila Fikri, Halifia Lintang. In this activity, it was attended by 35 persons as members of the PKK (Indicator 5.c.1 from Target 5.c. Goal 5 of the SDGs), SME owners and the people of Sumberejo Village.

In this activity, assistance is provided for making products based on local potential and theory which includes: Sipiam (Ambonese Pisang Syrup) made from Ambon banana extract and caramelized granulated sugar, Pistart (Pisang Tart) made from candi banana flour and flour substitutes flour with banana and pineapple jam filling, Pytung (Banana Heart Patty) made from plantain heart and mixed with chicken meat, and JIA Candy (Ambon Banana Jelly Candy). While the theory presented includes procedures for submitting PIRT and Halal Certification, digital marketing, product packaging

With this service and training activity, it is intended as an effort to develop Micro Small Micro Enterpreuner (MSME)s in Sumberejo Village, in utilizing regional potential that can be processed into culinary products that can increase economic value for the people around Sumberejo village, so as to achieve a Healthy and Prosperous life.
